community connections- sport coaching

after the warm up we got going and put them into groups, the basketball groups took them to the basketball courts and we all took turns to teach them new things. my group taught them shooting, we got them to play knock out and they had a lot of fun with it.
at the end of the lesson we asked them if they had fun and they all said yes

last week was our fist lesson with the primary school kids, the first thing we did was introduce them to our school and make them feel welcome, we told them all about the different groups of sport and what would be happening for the next month.
the basketball groups got together and got all the primary school kids to do a warm up, they played pony express. they played really well and understood it straight away.

last week we all went to the Victorian institute of sport (VIS)
we talked to 2 girls, Katie who was a hokey coach and Sarah who was a very good netball player.
my group saw Katie first, she talked to us about her journey and how she got from being a good teenage player to then playing for Australia  in the Olympics and winning gold. she spoke to us about how to be a good coach and important things to remember. after talking to Katie had a lot of notes on my page but when we talked to Sarah i dint write anything on my page because she only talked about her and her experiences, she didn’t really tell us how to be a good coach.

so far in sports coaching we have had 7 lessons all up, we had some with with ‘stride’ and ‘coach approach’ while the others had been class work and lessons in the gym going through what we might teach the younger kids In May.

I am really looking forward to meeting the kids and getting to know them and teach them new things that they might be interested in.
I haven’t enjoyed doing the class work because the class work isn’t fun at all, we talk about the same tings very day but the rest of our lessons have been very fun.

so far in sports coaching I have learns what kind of responsibilities we need to have, we have also learn more about what a community is. today we learnt “what is feedback?” and everyone gave great ideas as to what good feedback requires and ways providing positive and constructive feedback which we got lots of dot points on.

I’m looking forward to coaching the younger kids and seeing them improve each lesson.
