On Tuesday we travelled to beautiful Khao Yai National Park from Bangkok. Upon arriving we set about learning how to set up our hammocks and divided up the supplies we had to carry. It was then we met the pigtail monkeys. Sure, they look innocent, but they are bold and like to steal things, as we would find out the next morning. The pigtail monkeys stole a bag of chips, Zane’s cable ties, a bag of pasta, a packet of tissues and Nittin’s painting. (All were recovered except for the tissues which were taken up a tree and shredded one by one.) It was all very funny, and we were much more aware of their antics. Wednesday was the start of our trek, we hiked about 14 kms through the jungle. All morning and part of the afternoon were spent up and down hills to get to some spectacular waterfalls. It was a lovely warm day, great for pictures and the water was good for a paddle. Then then the rest of the afternoon was spent walking back to our campsite. Returning that evening, tired but satisfied, and had an early night. But of course, not before having biscuits and candles for Zane’s Birthday!! The porcupines come out at night and are huge!(compared to Echidnas that is) During the night they wandered around our backpacks and hammocks, they are harmless, and were entertaining to watch. Thursday was a shorter trek, to a local watch tower to have look at the hills from a height. It was excellent, an we got some fabulous photos. There were other animals like Tigers, Black Bears, King Cobras, Leopards, Wild cats and wild dogs, but we didn’t get to see any. After packing up our kit this morning we made our way back to Bangkok.
Good morning all.
