Battambang

Left the chaos of Phnom Phen after going out to visit the water festival at night. Fantastic boats which were all light up and a great fireworks display, but very, very crowded and we could hardly move. Just came into town and recentlt heards about the stampede that killed around 350 people. Caught a bus which took about 5 hours and arrived in a lovely rural setting. We are building a fence over the next 6 days to secure the area in which we are staying. Everyone has been working extremely hard and it is very tiring but in the evenings we are having a lot of fun playing with the kids. This afternoon we took a break and visited an orphanage run by Tara Winkler, an aussie who was recently on Australian Story. Had a great time playing with kids and made a large donation for which they were extremely grateful. Also gave out toys, stickers, books and soccer jumpers. Everyone is on a high. The next 2 days we are working in the morning and then teaching english to the kids in the afternoon. Very much looking forward to that as they are sooooo  cute. Have to walk back around 3Km to the centre foe dinner now. Will post photos on the next blog.

It is terrific to see your photos and ‘hear’ your voices. We were all most relieved to hear that you were nowhere the tragedy at the water festival. I hope you are working hard at building the fence, teaching the little children well and enjoying your fantastic journey. Take care! Mrs G

Good to hear you are having a good time as well as contributing to a good cause.
Glad you avoided the stampede. Was a bit worried when I saw the news and put you guys in the same area.

    Have fun.
